This Wednesday was Purdue Day of Giving, and Dining & Catering played our own part in the huge event!
Early Wednesday we set up our PDOG Excitement Center in Third Street Suites. Doors opened at 7am, with drinks and information for anyone able to stop by. Then at 8:30, the Friends and Family Breakfast began. We hosted this breakfast for retirees, current employees and alums of Dining & Catering, as well as anyone who wanted to come reconnect with Dining & Catering personnel. Starbucks drinks and Cosi fruit and squagels were provided, and the breakfast closed out at 10:30.
1pm marked the beginning of Cakes around Campus, and the Excitement Center and various Dining locations broke out big cakes with the Day of Giving logo and excellent frosting. At Third Street, we cut up the cake and passed it out in the lobby, in Krach Leadership Center, and outside on Krach Lawn.
Then from 3-5pm we had a cookout on the Krach Lawn, complete with music and games! We rolled out a grill and a picnic spread, including hot dogs and tofu dogs, chips, condiments and five different bins of drinks. It was a hot, bright day, and with the corn hole and picnic blankets it felt like a summer day.
We also had competitions running all day. Our 11 am social media contest for Most Creative Use of the PDOG Logo was won by Jami Hinesley at Cosi for a pastry shaped like the logo. Later in the day, the prize for our Most Creative Selfie category went to Whitney Wood at Port, for her coffee meme. Our last contest, at 5pm, was the Most Unique Use of the PDOG Logo. The prize for this category went to Sierra Morin, for her picture with members of the Purdue Football team.
Throughout the day, we made a point to go pass out fudge to all of the on-Campus donors, to thank them for their contributions!
Our Day of Giving goal was $5,000, which we met and passed by $345. It was a day full of fun, food, and giving back to the Purdue community. Thank you to everyone who participated in our events, and of course all the many donors of Purdue Dining & Catering that help us Make Good Things Happen.
