Jumpstart orientation

What is Jumpstart?

JumpStart is a student orientation program for undergraduate PD&C student hires; learn more about the program below and secure your spot for JumpStart 2026 today!

Participants accepted into the JumpStart program will be able to move in the weekend of August 8 & 9 for JumpStart. The program includes a week of team-building activities, training sessions, and opportunities to get to know your peers and the Purdue campus before classes begin and before BGR ( Bolier Gold Rush)! Participants will receive tips from mentors about balancing work and class, familiarizing themselves with campus, making new friends, and learning how to do their jobs within Purdue Dining & Culinary!

Participating students will be eligible to receive a reimbursement on BGR fees if they work five shifts during BGR and continue working until September 15th, 2026. Purdue Dining & Culinary will pay the early arrival cost, provide meals, and help you move in!

Jumpstart is a fantastic experience for anyone considering student employment at Purdue, but don’t take our word for it! Read what our students have said about the experience:

Testimonials

“I was nervous to start school, and nervous to make friends. Jumpstart was a great way to ease the anxiety about going to college. Moving in was so nice and peaceful. My mentors were super nice and helpful. They answered all the questions I had, not only about the job, but about school as well. Making friends was easy with JumpStart, too. I still hang out with some members of my group, and I get along with all the rest. It’s nice to see friendly faces when starting school. It was also an easy way to ease into the new job. We trained a little bit at a time and got experience and time to bond with the people we would be working with. I really liked Jumpstart.”

“Jumpstart is truly worth it. You get work experience, so you’ll be ahead of everyone else. Your BGR gets paid for if you work a shift every day, which wasn’t too bad. And you meet new people and make great friends. Not to mention the mentors are wonderful people and will help you with anything you need to know. Finally, moving in was super easy, as not as many people were there trying to move in all at once like during BGR. All in all, it helped me make friends, learn how to do my job better, and give me an extra week to figure out the campus.”
