Purdue Dining at the Trail of Scarecrows

This week marks the start of the Trail Of Scarecrows and we couldn’t be more excited! The Trail Of Scarecrows is an annual fall event that takes place in the Prophetstown State Park during the month of October. The event features a bunch of scarecrows created and sponsored by different organizations, including one very special scarecrow created by our very own Dining Ambassadors!

Harpreet, Kelly, Emerald and Vrushal, Dining Ambassadors who are a part of our Event Planning Committee, have been hard at work for the past week planning and building our scarecrow (we’ve tentatively dubbed him Dennis). The scarecrow is sporting a dashing Purdue Dining & Catering shirt and a nice straw hat. The committee stuffed it with hay purchased from a local farmer. Its plate holds a representation of different dining courts on Purdue’s campus, like a piece of pizza for Ford and a strawberry for Windsor.

The Trail of Scarecrows culminates every year with a vote-count, which determines the scarecrow visitors like most. You can vote for your favorite scarecrow by stopping in at the Visitor’s Center and contributing to the penny donation that the park puts towards Education, Arts, Culture, and History Programs at Prophetstown State Park. This year’s event also falls on the Centennial Celebration of Indiana’s State Parks, founded in 1916, and there will be special Scarecrows honoring this momentous anniversary!

The park also puts on other related fall events, like Trick or Treating and the Pumpkin Decorating Contest on the weekend of Oct. 21.

If you’re interested in these amazingly autumnal activities, you can find the park at:

5545 Swisher Road, West Lafayette, Ind. 47906

Any questions can be directed to the Prophetstown State Park Office at (765) 567-4919.
