Halloween Happenings

This week there are a lot of Halloween events going on campus, including Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Union, a Harry Potter Escape Room and United Way Campaign’s History of Horrors Tour, just to name a few! The History of Horror Tour is new this year. It’s a walk around Purdue’s Campus with a host, who will stop along the way to tell tales of true and spooky events of the past. The Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Stewart Center is currently holding the BFSD, or “Big Fat Scary Deal,” an exhibit full of the “edgy, weird, unsettling and scary,” a fitting theme for Halloween. The exhibit is ongoing, and you can stop by anytime the gallery is open. The Purdue Cultural Centers are also hosting Halloween events all day Friday. And as always, Purdue Dining & Catering is joining in as well with a few events of their own!

Today, Dining & Catering put on a Heroes and Villains lunch at Ford and Wiley. In previous years, the dining courts have each chosen a theme, and “dressed up” the eating areas accordingly; this year, the staff is getting more involved with the decorating. The premise of the lunch was that each supervisor choose either a hero or villain to represent, and then beyond that they were free to create their own theme. Each dining court also had an array of Halloween desserts, including candy corn, pumpkin cookies and red hots at Wiley, and MeMe’s bread pudding and Spooky Gelatin at Ford. At Ford, the different sections were decorated like Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Then for Halloween on Monday, the Dining Ambassadors Event Planning Committee has put together a Halloween Party at the Gathering Place. The party will take place from 5pm-7pm, and will include a spooky photobooth, crafts and ghoulish food! There will also be a running competition for a few different costume categories, so make sure you came dressed up! The categories include scariest, funniest, most creative, best couple, best group and best overall, with creepy prizes for the winners. Feel free to stop by for a meal swipe, and Eat, Drink, and Be Scary! It’s definitely going to be a ton of fun, be sure to tune in next week for a full recap of the party!

  1. Hope you all had a spooky Halloween! I bet that Harry Potter escape room was fun. As long as there wasn’t a portkey at the end…. /:
