As most of you know, this weekend was Halloween weekend (Halloweekend, if you’re feeling fancy), and we at Purdue Dining & Catering decided to throw our own Halloween Celebration for campus residents. We mentioned this party in the blog post last week, and then this week we went to The Gathering Place in costume to join the festivities!
The entrance was blocked off by a black curtain, covered in spiderweb netting. Inside, The Gathering Place was all decked out in pumpkins, glitter, hanging bats, and big hairy spiders. Each of the tables had glass jars full of cobwebs, with little tea lights in the middle for a spooky glow. There was a craft table set up, where you could make your own Halloween light. The table had purple plastic cups, sharpies, lids and plastic tea lights. After drawing witches or bats or a haunted house on the outside of our cups, we turned them upside-down and put in the glowing tea lights, and made tiny lanterns! All throughout the party, the Walking Dead was playing on the TV in the back for zombie fans to enjoy.
There was also a Halloween Photo Booth, complete with a mummy and witch character backdrop and costume masks off to the side. We used this booth to collect pictures for the costume contests, and currently our Events Committee is going over the photos to choose the scariest, funniest, most creative, best group, best couple and best overall! The winners will receive little golden skeleton awards, and some categories include further prizes! Costume Contest winners will be awarded soon, but until we find out, here are some of our favorite costume pictures from the night!
But the food itself was really the main attraction. The staff at The Gathering Place did an AMAZING job coming up with creative Halloween treats. The menu included Hot Dog “Mummies,” Bloody Ribs and Franks, Roasted “Finger”ling Potatoes, and Carved Brain Meatloaf. For dessert, there was plenty of Ghoully Fruit Salad, Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats, and Black Caramel Apples! We had a great turnout, great food, and a very fun night.
Did you guys dress up for Halloween? Feel free to leave us a comment and let us know what you went as!
See you next week!
