Boilers of Dining – Emerald Evans

Emerald is a Junior majoring in Law and Society who’s also double minoring in Forensic Science and Human Development and Family Studies. She’s somehow fitting working part time at Cary Knight Spot into her schedule as well!

So Emerald, how long have you worked at Cary Knight Spot?

I started the day before class started in August of my Freshman year back in 2017.

Wow you’ve been here for a really long time! What do you like most about working in Knight Spot?

Our manager Jon because he treats us more than just employees. He takes time outside of work to send us scholarship opportunities and if any of us are performing he comes to watch us. Not only does he watch out for us as employees, he makes sure we’re being good students as well.

Aw that’s so sweet! What are some tasks you do for work?

I’m an HR Student Manager so I’m in charge of conducting orientation, creating schedules, reviewing applications and starting the interview process for possible candidates. Outside of being an HR manager, I am also a Student Supervisor on shifts so on a normal day with out orientation, I make sure everything is running smoothly. I make sure orders are made correctly, delegate tasks, and if there is an issue customers or employees can talk to me!

Sounds like you have a lot to do on your plate! Now onto the food, what is your favorite item to get from here?

Hmmmmm, let me think. I really like our popcorn chicken with spicy ranch mayo sauce on the side.

What about your favorite item from the market?

The Cheezits!

Oh yes they’re amazing! What about your favorite milkshake?

Definitely our chocolate milkshake.

Ours is the cookies and creme but all of them are great! Can you tell us your favorite work story?

There’s so many stories but the one off the top of my head, is about closing Knight Spot at 1 AM one night. One of the other managers working started singing the song Beast of Burden by the Rolling Stones and when the line “I’ll never be your beast of burden” he changed it to “I’ll never leave your pizza burning” and for some reason I found it so hilarious I couldn’t stop laughing!

That’s a great play on words. Outside of work, what do you like to do?

I like to shop and get pedicures so I can relax. I also like to spend time with my sisters when I go home, we usually have a game night.

Have you done anything fun this fall season? Well maybe past fall season since winter came early!

I’ve gone to a pumpkin patch and a haunted house. Typical October things!

Sounds fun! Speaking of this weather, if you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

Jamaica. I want to try true Jamaican jerk chicken and all the other foods!

Oh man we would love to get away from here to go to Jamaica! Let’s end this with a serious question, what celebrity do you want to meet the most?

J. Cole so I can marry him!

You better invite us to the wedding! On that note thanks for taking the time to sit down and talk to us Emerald. We hope you have a great rest of your semester!

Alright Boilermakers, this is a start to a new week and a new month so let’s tackle it head on as this semester is coming to an end!
