Happy New Year Boilermakers!
Now you may be thinking to yourself, “Wait… it’s March. We celebrated the new year 3 months ago.” You’re correct. However, in South Asian cultures, the new year is celebrated based on the cycles of the moon. This year, the Lunar New Year happened to fall on February 16th! The Year of the Dog celebrations have been happening all over the world for the past 2 weeks. These celebrations include bell ringing, house cleaning, lighting fireworks, and watching traditional lion parades. This year for Lunar New Year, Purdue Dining & Catering celebrated with multiple student organizations, decorations, food, and good company during lunch at each Dining Court and Lemongrass at the Union!
At Wiley, the Malaysian Student Association educated students on the tossing of a dish: the higher you toss the dish, the more luck you have that year!
Hillenbrand Dining Court offered delicious desserts from Vietnam, partnering with the Vietnamese International Student Association! Below we have pictured a sundae bar and Rice Pudding with Black Eyed Peas in Coconut Milk!
In terms of main dishes, Earhart had a variety of options from which you could choose! From Stir Fry and Sticky Buns to Crab Rangoons and Potstickers, every student was sure to find something they’d enjoy!
Lastly, let’s not forget about Lemongrass in the Union! Here, you could find dessert, veggies, seasoned rice, and more! All easily accessible with your chopsticks!
Thanks for celebrating with us! Boiler Up and have a lucky new year!
