Gail Hook is a Level 5 baker for The Baker Shop for Purdue Catering located in the Purdue Memorial Union. She is originally from Butler, Indiana, and has worked with Purdue Dining & Catering for two years this coming June. Part of Gail’s responsibilities includes making pastries for different areas of PD&C and events, maintaining event schedules, and overseeing the student employees. Gail first received her Culinary Degree from Ivy Tech in 2010 and just two years later she received her Baking Degree. In 2013, Gail then got her Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) from Purdue University (Boiler Up!). She is heavily involved in her church and loves relaxing with her dog. In her free time, she likes to spend time with friends and go to the movies. Gail additionally works for Nothing Bundt Cakes in West Lafayette.
Why did you choose to work for PD&C:
“I’ve always been in the kitchen. I’ve always loved Purdue and baking so it was a perfect fit.”
What opportunities has PD&C given you?
“PD&C offers numerous classes such as dietitian and nutrition classes. PD&C is also great at showing their employees they care. Working for PD&C has broadened my horizon in baking.”

“I love Christmas because I get to be around family, friends. I love celebrating together.”

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
“I’ve always wanted to be in the kitchen. I would spend summers with my grandparents and they loved cooking. I’ve just always seen myself in the food industry.”
