Sydney’s from Muncie, Indiana and is currently the Training and Development Supervisor under our Employment Success division of Purdue Dining & Culinary.

What made you decide to attend Purdue?
My parents are Purdue Alumni so I grew up loving Purdue.
Sounds like an amazing Boilermaker family! How long have you studied at Purdue and what are you majoring in?
I’m a Junior and I’m majoring in General Management with two minors in Human Resource Management and Psychology.
How long have you worked under Employment Success?
I started in August of 2018 so its been about a year and a half.
What made you decide to work for Employment Success?
I worked at at Wiley for a semester and then decided I wanted a job that was more human resources focused. I found an opening for my position now as the Training and Development Supervisor, applied, and got the job!
What do you do as the Training and Development Supervisor?
I make sure all the full-time employees are up to date on their food safety, allergy, and other compliance tests and training. I do a lot of other training for full-time staff and help out in many areas of dining.
Would you say you do a lot of behind the scenes activities?
Yes, I enjoy being able to interact with a variety of people across all of dining while not working in a dining location or market. I am not stuck to managing one area so I get the opportunity to meet new people and actually get to know them!
Outside of work, what hobbies do you have?
I love to quilt, play video games and board games, and I like to bake!
What is your favorite video game and board game?
I just got a new board game called Villainess and I love playing that. My favorite video game is Overwatch because I’m good at it!
You have to teach us sometime then! You also said you liked to bake so what’s your favorite food to bake?
Peach Pie! They are the best during the summer time.
Speaking of favorite foods, what is your favorite place to eat on campus?
Au Bon Pain! Their chocolate croissant is the best or the Reese’s cookie.
How about the most underrated place on campus?
I’d say Greenleafs since most people don’t know how good their salads are.
We couldn’t agree more. Now Valentine’s Day just passed, what did you do?
I went to La Scala with my boyfriend. I gifted him cute baby Yoda cookies and I got some very nice flowers
Awwww, that’s so cute! What are you most looking forward to in the next coming months?
I am excited to learn more about human resources in my role and I have a summer internship for the position of HR Operations at Carrier in Indianapolis!
Congratulations! That’s awesome, well to end it on a high note, can you give us the best piece of advice you have that you want to share with others?
I’d have to say it’s you don’t have to have everything figured out perfectly all the time, just work hard and try your best.
That is definitely a great piece of advice that everyone should hear. Thanks for talking to us Sydney, we hope your internship goes well and you have a great time in Indianapolis this summer!
